Consider the surroundings

A replacement component moves through storage, handling and installation before it returns to service. Consider where contamination could enter during that journey. Workshop conditions and the cleanliness of handling equipment belong in the maintenance plan.

Review the interfaces

Seals and lubrication are part of a wider arrangement. SKF’s discussion of seal analysis connects lubricant cleanliness with bearing life and describes the role of the operating environment. A maintenance review should consider how contaminants are excluded as well as how lubricant is retained.

Leave a clear handover

Record what was found, what was replaced and which equipment instructions were followed. Keep observations separate from confirmed causes. A clear handover helps the next person investigate a recurring problem. The machining photograph provides workshop context; it is not evidence of a contamination failure.
